In the 17th century the Nabeshima clan closely guarded the secret kilns production techniques and the ceramics made here were crafted exclusively for the Emperor, feudal lords, and the Shogun..These days the area is open to all and a hive of tourists fill the narrow cobblestone roads on a sunny day. Moments of seclusion can be found wandering riverside and exploring the ruins of the Nabeshima clan kilns.
